Nobody Will Do It For You

A child asked his mother to chew and even swallow food for him. She could only do the first. Likewise, no one can walk your spiritual journey for you—each person must take responsibility for their salvation.

During dinner, a child struggled with a tough piece of meat. After trying for a while, he carried the meat to his mother and said: "Mum, can you chew this meat for me?" Out of love, the mother agreed. She chewed it softly and returned it to the boy. But even after chewing, the child still couldn't swallow it. So he took it back to his mother and said: "Mum, can you swallow this meat for me—not into your stomach, but into my own?" The mother looked at him and said, "My son, I can chew it for you, but I cannot swallow it for you. Some things you must do yourself." So it is with life. Others may guide us, help us, pray for us, or encourage us, but no one can live our spiritual life for us. Effort, repentance, discipline, faith, and obedience are personal. Your journey to heaven is yours alone. You do yours. I do mine. Each person must walk their path.
